Missed call text back

Missed Call Text Back for Auto Repair Shops

A missed call is usually a customer standing next to a car that will not start. If you do not answer, the next shop on their list will. Shop Desk texts them back within minutes, in your shop's words, so they wait for you.

Free plan, not a trial. No card. We look at every new shop ourselves and switch it on, usually the same day.

How it works

What Happens When a Call Rings Out

The first text reads like this, in your shop's name. "Supercanic here, sorry we missed you. What vehicle is it and what is it doing? Txt STOP to opt out."

  1. The call rings out

Nobody picks up. An answered call is never texted.

  2. A text goes out

Within minutes, from your shop number. It says sorry we missed you and asks what the vehicle is and what it is doing.

  3. One follow up

If they go quiet, one more text five minutes later. Never a third.

  4. A person takes over

The moment you or your crew reply, it stops. The thread and the answers are on an enquiry in the desk.

The rules it keeps

It Never Texts at Midnight and Never Quotes a Price

A bot that texts a customer at the wrong time, or quotes a price nobody approved, does more harm than a missed call. So the text back runs on rules, and the rules are the point.

  • Texts only inside your shop's hours, in your shop's time zone
  • A daily cap, and a no contact list it will not touch
  • STOP is honored, and it never texts your own staff
  • It stops the moment a person replies
  • It asks questions. It never quotes a price

What to text back

Scripts for a Missed Call, Ready to Copy

Whatever tool you use, the first text should do three things. Say who it is, say sorry, and ask the one question that gets you a quote. Here are the ones we would send.

  • During the day

"Hi, this is the shop. Sorry we missed you, we are under a car. What vehicle is it and what is it doing? We will call you back within the hour."

  • At closing time

"Thanks for calling. We just closed for the day. Text us the year, make and model and what it is doing, and we will call you first thing in the morning."

  • On a mobile call

"Sorry I missed you, I am on a job right now. Where is the car, and what is it doing? I will text you a time as soon as I am done here."

  • A car that will not start

"Sorry we missed you. Is the car somewhere safe? Tell us where it is and what it did before it quit, and we will tell you if we can come to you."

Keep it short, keep a real name on it, and never promise a time the day cannot keep. A text sent at nine at night saying within the hour is a broken promise.

What it needs

What You Need to Switch It On

The text back is part of Pro. It runs on your shop's own texting number, which we set up for you, and your calls have to come in on a line the desk can see. We set that up on the same call.

Business texting in the United States needs carrier registration. Today, shop numbers text under our registration. Each shop getting its own is on our list, and we will tell you when it ships.

  • Shop Desk Pro, $149 a month
  • A shop texting number, set up by us
  • Your calls on a line the desk can see
  • Off until you switch it on
Your own cell

Texts Relay to Your Cell. Your Number Stays Yours.

Customer texts can relay to your own cell, and your reply goes back out on the shop line. The customer only ever sees the shop number. When you hire, the number stays with the shop, not with whoever used to carry the phone.

Questions

Questions About Missed Call Text Back

What is missed call text back?
An automatic text sent to someone whose call you did not answer. Instead of hearing voicemail and calling the next shop, they get a text from you within minutes asking what they need, so the job stays yours.
What should I text back after a missed call?
Say who it is, say sorry, and ask one question that moves the job forward. For a repair shop that is what vehicle it is and what it is doing. Do not promise a time you cannot keep.
Will it text customers in the middle of the night?
No. It only texts inside your shop's hours, in your own time zone. A call at midnight gets its text when you open.
Does it quote prices?
Never. It asks questions and writes the answers onto an enquiry. A price only goes out on a quote a person has approved.
Is missed call text back legal?
Texting someone who just called you is normal, but business texting in the United States needs carrier registration, and every text has to honor STOP. Shop Desk handles both. Shop numbers text under our registration today.
Do I need a new phone number?
You get a shop texting number with Pro, which we set up. Your calls need to come in on a line the desk can see, and we sort that out on the setup call.
